The introduction of modern and improved means of transportation and communication has stepped up the tempo of our economic life and of the progress of the Philippines in general.  

This department is responsible for recommending and implementing policies in transportation and communications.

President Ramos ordered the DOTC to expedite the completion of its mass-transportation projects, particularly those under the wings of PNR and the LRTA  

DOTC secretary Amadeo Lagdameo said the President had instructed him to constructed him to constantly check and monitor the progress of the ongoing projects of the two agencies.  

PNR is currently undertaking the revitalization of its south mainline which covers the Manila-Laguna-Quezon-Naga-Legazpi route.  

The existing LRT line from Monumento to Baclaran will also be improved through the LRT's P2.8 billion capacity expansion project. This will increase the capacity of the country's first LRT line from mere 18,000 to 27,000 passengers per hour, per direction.
